Rev. W. Herb McComas
Founder of World Missions Tours


Rev. W. Herb McComas, Sr., 89, widower of Louise Stephens McComas, died Tuesday November 27, at the home of his son. A native of Logan, West Virginia he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Lura Vickers McComas. He was a retired Methodist minister and was a member of the Advance Methodist Church, Flatwoods, KY and attended the First United Methodist Church in Winchester, KY.

Herb McComas was an ordained elder in the Kentucky Conference of The United Methodist Church. He was a former businessman in Russell, KY. He began his ministry in 1943 and served pastorates in Greenup County prior to his appointment by the conference as a general evangelist in 1961. He conducted revivals in 80 United Methodist Churches in the KY Conference, hundreds throughout America, often crossing denominational lines. His first overseas mission was in Haiti in 1963 and was followed by evangelistic crusades and taking short term mission teams building churches, schools, medical clinics and hospitals in Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Central and South America, Africa and India.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law; Lt. Col. (Ret.) and Mrs. W.H. (Mac) McComas, Jr. of Winchester and Mr. and Mrs. Charles “Bo” McComas of Coral Gables, FL.; 3 granddaughters, 3 great granddaughter, 1 great grandson, 1 step granddaughter, 1 step great granddaughter and 1 step great grandson; 3 sisters, Emmagene House, Lexington; Naomi Hillman, Russell, KY and Dorothy Jarvis of Westwood, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was on Friday November 30th at the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY.
