8 Days in the Footsteps of Jesus
Day 1 – USA TO TEL AVIV
Our jumbo jet will give us a comfortable flight to the “Land of the Bible.” Meals will be served as we cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 2 – ARRIVE TEL AVIV
Arrival Ben Gurion Airport. Follow exit sign for “Groups Exit”. Meeting and transfer to the hotel in Tel Aviv area for overnight.
Day 3 – HAIFA, MUKHRAKA, MEGIDDO, TIBERIAS
Leave Tel Aviv heading North, first stop is at Caesarea, once capital of the Roman province, and see Roman and Crusader remains and the harbour from which St. Paul was taken prisoner to Rome. Continue to Mt. Carmel at Haifa. Leave Haifa via the Carmel viewing the Druze villages and then to Mukhraka for a spectacular view of the northern region. Proceed to Megiddo overlooking the Jezreel Valley and considered the Armageddon of the New Testament. Continue to Nazareth and see the oldest Church of the Annunciation with Mary’s Well. We visit the excavations of a 1st Century AD Village in Nazareth. Then to the Jordan River for the traditional baptismal site of Jesus. Finally to your hotel in Tiberias overnight.
Day 4 – GALILEE, BOAT RIDE, CAPERNAUM TABGHA, MT BEATITUDES, JERUSALEM
Take the boat from Tiberias to Capernaum; there you will see an ancient synagogue and St. Peter’s house which was later converted into a church. Also by the shore you will visit Tabgha with the Church of Peter’s Primacy and the ancient mosaic of the Loaves and Fishes. Continue to the Mount of Beatitudes where the Sermon on the Mount is remembered. Leave Tiberias down the Jordan Valley Rift Visit Bet Shean, biblical Scythopolis to visit the Roman theatre, paved road and the excavations, to Jericho to see the excavations of the oldest city in the world. View the Mt of Temptations. Proceed to Jerusalem for overnight.
Day 5 – MT. OLIVES, GETHSEMANE, OLD CITY: TEMPLE AREA, CHRISTIAN SHRINES
Drive to the Mount of Olives for a wonderful view of Jerusalem. See the Place of Ascension and the Pater Noster Church, and view the Palm Sunday road. At the foot of the hill see the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive trees and the Church of All Nations. Drive down the Kidron Valley and see the Pool of Siloam, and St. Peter in Gallicantu built over the palace of the High Priest Caiaphas. Then visit the Wailing (or Western) Wall, and view the Temple Area with the Al-Aksa Mosque and Dome of the Rock. See the Pool of Bethesda where the angel ruffled the water. Visit the Convent of Zion Sisters. Passing the Stations of the Cross, come to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Leave the city through the bazaars to the west by Jaffa Gate. We visit Gordon’s Calvary and the empty tomb – we have a communion service here. Return to Hotel.
Day 6 – MT. ZION, NEW CITY, MUSEUM, BETHLEHEM
On Mount Zion visit the tomb of David, the Upper Room and the Church of the Dormition. Continue to the New City and, passing the Hebrew University and the Knesset, visit the Israel Museum and the Shrine of the Book where the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept: then to the 2nd Temple Model of Jerusalem. Continue south to Bethlehem and see the Church of the Nativity, and below it the cave-stable of Jesus’ birth. We visit Shepherds Fields for “Devotions under the Stars.” Back to Jerusalem for overnight.
Day 7 – BETHANY, QUMRAN, DEAD SEA, MASADA, EIN GEDI
Drive to Bethany, home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus. See the wine-press. Continue to visit Qumran where the Essene enclave was and see the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden. Visit Ein Gedi. Drive along the shore of the Dead Sea to Ein Gedi and then to Masada, the last stronghold of Jewish resistance to the Romans. Return to Jerusalem.
Day 8 – TRANSFER TO AIRPORT FOR DEPARTURE
We leave this land today with memories never to be forgotten.
