10 Days in the Footsteps of Jesus
Day 1 – USA/TEL AVIV
Our jumbo jet will give us a comfortable non stop flight to the Land of the Bible. Dinner will be served as we wing our way across the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 2 – ARRIVE TEL AVIV
Arrival Ben Gurion Airport. Follow exit sign for “Groups Exit”. Meeting and transfer to the hotel in Tel Aviv area for overnight.
Day 3 – HAIFA, MUKHRAKA, MEGIDDO, TIBERIAS
Leave Tel Aviv heading North, first stop is at Caesarea, once capital of the Roman province, and see Roman and Crusader remains and the harbour from which St. Paul was taken prisoner to Rome. Continue to Mt. Carmel at Haifa. Leave Haifa via the Carmel viewing the Druze villages and then to Mukhraka for a spectacular view of the northern region. Proceed to Megiddo overlooking the Jezreel Valley and considered the Armageddon of the New Testament. Overnight in Tiberias.
Day 4 – GALILEE, BOAT RIDE, CAPERNAUM, TABGHA, MT. OF BEATITUDES AND GOLAN HEIGHTS
Take the boat from Tiberias to Capernaum; there you will see an ancient synagogue and St. Peter’s house which was later converted into a church. Also by the shore you will visit Tabgha with the Church of Peter’s Primacy and the ancient mosaic of the Loaves and Fishes. Continue to the Mount of Beatitudes where the Sermon on the Mount is remembered. In the afternoon head up the Golan Heights to the Good Fence at Metulla. We will reach the foot of Mt. Hermon before returning to Tiberias for overnight.
Day 5 – CANA, NAZARETH, TABOR
Drive to Cana, scene of the first miracle and visit the Church of the Wedding. Then go to Nazareth and see the oldest Church of the Annunciation with Mary’s Well. Continue to Mt. Tabor site of the Transfiguration. Finally to your hotel in Tiberias overnight.
Day 6 – BAPTISM SITE, BET SHEAN, JERICHO, DEAD SEA
Start the day at the Baptism site by the Jordan River. Leave Tiberias down the Jordan Valley Rift. Visit Bet Shean, biblical Scythopolis to visit the Roman theatre, paved road and the excavations. Continue to Jericho to see the excavations of the oldest city in the world. View the Mt. of Temptations. Proceed to the Dead Sea region for overnight.
Day 7 – MASADA, QUMRAN, DEAD SEA, BETHANY, JERUSALEM
Start the day with a visit to Masada, the last stronghold of Jewish resistance to the Romans. Continue to visit Qumran where the Essene enclave was and see the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden. We will have time for a dip in the bitter waters of the Dead Sea. Drive to Bethany, home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus. See the winepress. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 8 – MT. OLIVES, GETHSEMANE, KIDRON VALLEY, MT. ZION, BETHLEHEM
Drive to the Mount of Olives for a wonderful view of Jerusalem. See the Place of Ascension and the Pater Noster Church, and view the Palm Sunday road. At the foot of the hill see the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive trees and the Church of All Nations. Drive down the Kidron Valley and see the Pool of Siloam, and St. Peter in Gallicantu built over the palace of the High Priest Caiaphas. On Mount Zion visit the tomb of David, the Upper Room and the Church of the Dormition. Continue south to Bethlehem and see the Church of the Nativity, and below it the cave-stable of Jesus’ birth. Back to Jerusalem for overnight. Enjoy Shepherd’s Field devotion under the stars.
Day 9 – OLD CITY: TEMPLE AREA, CHRISTIAN SHRINES, GARDEN TOMB
Enter the Old City through the Dung Gate to visit the Western Wall, the Temple Area with the Al-Aksa mosque and the Dome of the Rock where Abraham was going to sacrifice his son. Time to visit the Jewish Quarter and see the Cardo as well as the excavations of the City of David. See the Pool of Bethesda where the angel ruffled the water, and St. Anne’s Church, traditional birthplace of Jesus’ mother. Visit the Convent of Zion Sisters, then pass the Stations of the Cross to the Church of The Holy Sepulcher. Leave the Old City through the Bazaars. Time for Communion service at the Garden Tomb.
Day 10 – ISRAEL MUSEUM, MODEL, YAD VASHEN, CHAGALL WINDOWS,
EIN KAREM
Visit the Israel Museum and view the Dead Sea scrolls. Continue to the Model of Jerusalem as it was during the period of the Second Temple which stood at the time of Jesus. From there proceed to the Holocaust Memorial of Yad Vashem. Drive up to Hadassah Hospital to see the famous Chagall Windows commemorating each of the Israelite tribes. If time permits continue to Ein Karem to visit the Church of St. John the Baptist.
Day 11 – EMMAUS, KIRIATH-JEARIM, BETH-SHEMESH, VALLEY OF ELAH – AFTERNOON FREE
Today we will pass through the Valley of Ajalon where Joshua commanded the sun to stand still. Passing Emmaus, we will visit Kiriath-Jearim where the Ark of the Covenant remains until David brought it to Jerusalem. Stopping at Beth-Shemesk where the Philistines returned the Ark of the Covenant to Israel, we will view Zorek, the home of Samson, and the valley where Delilah lived. Passing by Makkeda where Joshua entombed the five kings in a cave, we will visit the Valley of Elah where David slew Goliath. Afternoon free for last minute shopping before our farewell dinner.
Day 12 – TRANSFER TO AIRPORT FOR DEPARTURE
We leave this land today with memories never to be forgotten.
