A new beginning . . . February 1963

World Missions Tours
One of our early groups. 1966.

During an evangelistic crusade in Cumberland, Maryland I was extended an invitation to preach at an annual convention in Haiti. Excitement filled my heart. Times of fear came to my mind, as news would bring reports not favorable to visitors to this small nation. With not so good support from church leaders and some friends, I continued with my plans to go and invited others to join me. On a late night flight from Cincinnati seven ministers left for Haiti. Upon arrival in Port au Prince we were welcomed with an airport blackout and no permission to use flashlights. Such mystery we had never experienced. Our crusade lasted two weeks in the area of Jeremie on the western peninsula without any insurmountable problem. In evaluating the impact our mission had on each of us, the entire group felt a new day was dawning for the church to become involved in a "hands on" experience in missions. Thus, World Missions Tours was born. How many thousands were reached for Christ? Who knows. How many answered God's call to special Christian ministries? God knows. The rest is history. Now multiplied thousands of ministers, laymen and youth see first hand the needs in the world around us.
